FAQs
What is a microschool?
A microschool is a modern twist on the one-room schoolhouse: small, mixed-age, and deeply personalized. At Alma Learning Lab, students learn side-by-side in a supportive, hands-on environment where real-world projects, curiosity, and emotional growth are front and center.
Older learners mentor younger ones, children grow through collaboration and exploration, and every student is met right where they are.
Microschools like Alma are perfect for families seeking more flexibility, meaningful learning, and a school that actually sees their child.
Why choose Alma Learning Lab?
Alma was created by a former teacher and local mom who wanted more for her kids—and yours.
We blend strong academics with project-based learning, kindness with confidence, and structure with freedom. With small class sizes and a whole-child approach, Alma helps kids thrive emotionally, socially, and academically.
We believe learning should feel like something your child gets to do, not something they have to survive.
Will I choose my child’s curriculum?
We provide a carefully curated curriculum that blends Montessori principles, Tennessee standards, and real-world learning.
But we also support homeschool families and welcome collaboration if you're using an approved curriculum or online program that fits your child best.
Either way, we make sure your child’s experience is personalized, purposeful, and joyful.
How is progress measured?
We don’t do report cards or constant testing. Instead, we track progress through:
📁 Portfolios
🧠 Projects
📋 Check-ins & reflection
📊 Skills-based mastery
This approach helps us focus on true growth—not just grades or arbitrary timelines. If you’re homeschooling officially, we’ll help you document progress for reviews or optional testing.
Is Alma a full-day program?
Yes! Our school day runs from 9am to 3pm, Monday through Friday.
Core academics take place in the mornings, while afternoons are filled with open-ended exploration, STEM labs, outdoor time, creative arts, and passion projects.
Families can choose 2-day, 3-day, or 5-day enrollment—whatever works best for your schedule and goals. We also align closely with the Williamson County Schools calendar.
Do you provide snacks or lunch?
Students bring their own lunches, snacks, and water bottles.
We also ask kids not to share food to keep everyone safe and allergy-aware.
What if we return to public school later?
Totally fine! Most Alma students exceed grade-level expectations and adjust smoothly to other environments.
We’re happy to help families with any documentation they need when re-enrolling in public or private school. Your child’s time at Alma is a beautiful foundation—not a detour.
